Wolfpack vs Rusty Blades – December 9th, 2022

Don showed up in the dressing room tonight with his hockey bag. Of course the guys got excited thinking that he was going to play, but instead he generously gave his hockey gear to the guys on the Team who might have needed it. Reggie ended up with a pair of nice long shin guards, and Joel finally got a pair of black pants with padding (these are Vintage Calgary Flames pants, so they are quite special). Stu took the rest of the gear and the hockey bag to give to his nephew who is hoping to get back into playing hockey.

First Period
Reggie passed to Dax, who scored the first goal of the game. The Rusty Blades came back with two quick goals. Dax replied with another goal. Stu fired one off the post. The First Period ended: 2 – 2

Second Period
Dax popped in another goal early in the Period, earning a Hat Trick! The Rusty Blades came back and tied up the game. Two of the Rusty Blades got injured this Period, one of them blew out his knee and had to be helped off the ice and into the Dressing Room, so obviously he was done for the night. The Second Period ended: 3 – 3

Third Period
Because the Rusty Blades were already playing with a short bench and then were down a man, Reggie decided to help out by changing sweaters and playing with the Rusty Blades. It was definitely the turning point of the game for the ‘Pack! Dax scored 5-hole (his fourth of the game), then he set Ed up with a nice pass and he scored, Dallas scored a goal while on his knees, and Joel finished off the scoring by making a nice move on the goalie. The Rusty Blades definitely ran out of steam for the Third Period, but atleast Reggie was there to take their face-offs!

FINAL SCORE:
Wolfpack: 7 – Rusty Blades: 3

Lurch was presented a bomb for passing the puck to an opponent, which resulted in a goal in the game against the Road Runners. Stu was also presented a bomb because he’s a tattle-tale.

It was the ‘Pack’s fourth win in a row with wins against:
Parkland 7 – 2
Road Runners 8 – 5
Flyers 4 – 3

Wolfpack vs NW A’s – November 18th, 2022

When the A’s hit the ice they had 11 players with 8 different Jerseys. I figured they had put together either a motley crew of players or an All Star Team. Turns out it was a bit of both as they had 4 regular players, some spares, and some sons of the players. Their speed was definitely All Star level.

First Period
Wolfpack started the game with the “Haystack Line” of Craig, Curtis and Reggie. Just five minutes into the First Period the pace really began to pick up and set the tone for the game. Loren passed to Craig in the slot, and he scored the first goal of the game. Rick defended a flurry of shots and Wolfpack fought to clear the puck from their zone. The A’s scored a goal. The ‘Pack continued the struggle of moving the puck to the A’s zone as the A’s continually intercepted Wolfpack’s long passes. The First Period ended: 1 – 1

Second Period
Early in the Second the A’s scored. The fans determined that it was deflected in off Stu’s skate, but he later denied it. The D-Men made some great defensive moves, and at the other end of the ice the Forwards missed a good scoring opportunity while the A’s goalie was laying down in his crease without his stick. Rick continued to make save after save as the A’s outshot the ‘Pack. Minutes later Joel slammed the puck in, shooting so hard that the net came off. Kyle and Joel each had a couple good shots late in the Period. The Second Period ended: 2 – 2

Third Period
Early in the Third the A’s hit the post. Loren took a tripping penalty and the ‘Pack Penalty Kill did a good job, but the A’s scored a Power Play goal. Ryan scored a high goal on a long shot, tying up the game. The A’s came back and scored again. With three minutes left in the game, Loren fired a hard shot that hit the goalie and popped over him and into the net, tying up at 4’s. The A’s really turned up the pressure, and the ‘Pack couldn’t clear the puck out. With 41 seconds left in the game, the A’s scored the go-ahead goal. Wolfpack pulled their goalie and the A’s scored an empty-netter.

FINAL SCORE:
Wolfpack: 4 – NW A’s: 6

Rick played an excellent game which made the end result very respectable considering that the A’s totally outshot the Wolfpack. A great effort from the Wolfpack – they played hard and the Defense was certainly kept busy throughout the game. A couple more shots from the ‘Pack and the outcome may have different!

Wolfpack vs Bowness Bees – November 13th, 2022

I am behind on a few posts so I will just post the scores to bring us up-to-date:
November 4/22 – Wolfpack vs Sharks: 5 – 6
November 6/22 – Wolfpack vs Road Runners: 3 – 3
November 11/22 – Wolfpack vs Parkland: 7 – 1
Going into tonight’s game, the Wolfpack record for the Season is 7 Wins, 4 Losses, and 1 Tie

First Period
It was good decent hockey in the First Period. The Bees were first on the scoreboard mid-way through the Period. The Bees were called on a penalty for tripping Dax and the ‘Pack Power Play struggled to organize their play and unfortunately did not score. The First Period ended: 0 – 1

Second Period
There was good end-to-end hockey for the Second Period. Dallas shot (fanned) from just over the Blueline, took another whack at the puck and scored an awesome high goal to tie up the game. A battle in front of the Bees’ net resulted in Ed scoring the next goal. Reggie made a nice long pass to Dax and it took him a few shots, but the puck finally made it into the crease. The Second Period ended: 3 – 1

Third Period
Early in the Third Dax had a breakaway but being hooked prevented him from getting a shot away. As there was no call on the play, the Team battled on and Dax passed to Reggie in the slot. Reggie came up with a goal and conquered his prolonged scoring slump! The Bees finally got a penalty for roughing up Curtis in the corner. The ‘Pack Power Play was more effective this time but they allowed the Bees the opportunity of a few short-handed scoring opportunities. The result was no goals for either Team. Hot Tub made a sweet pass to Reggie in the slot – it deflected off a Bees’ defenseman and popped into the crease! Late in the game Dax banked a shot into the Bees’ net.

FINAL SCORE:
Wolfpack: 6 – Bowness Bees: 1

Wolfpack was short a few D-Men for the game so Joel and Kale played Defense. Their speed and agility definitely worked in Wolfpack’s favour! The Bees were up to their normal shenanigans with the slashing, hooking, slapshots etc. They even dressed a player in Wolfpack socks hoping Wolfpack would pass to him and it would give them an edge against the ‘Pack – it may have even worked once or twice, but at the end of the game it was the ‘Pack who came up big on the scoreboard!

Wolfpack vs Chiefs – October 30th, 2022

First Period
The game started with Craig and Joel on D. The father and son duo were two of the only three men playing D for this afternoon game against the Chiefs. Their first shift was a LONG one as Kyle was a bit late to the game. Mid-way through the Period Kyle lost the puck (passed to a Chief), and the Chiefs scored the first goal of the game. Kyle promptly tried to make up for his mistake by attempting to score a goal. He shot the puck so hard at the Chiefs goalie that it knocked him over, but the puck did not manage to cross the line. With five minutes left in the First, Joel battled hard from end-to-end and scored a backhand goal. The First Period ended: 1 – 1

Second Period
The Chiefs came in on a two-on-one and scored the go-ahead goal, and then scored again minutes later. Joey muscled his way down from Centre Ice and scored. Dax rung one off the crossbar but did not score. The Second Period ended: 2 – 3

Third Period
The Chiefs scored early in the Period. Joel hit the goal post, then Kyle hit the inside of the goal post – I thought this one was in. Curtis, Joey and Ed battled in front of the Chief’s goal and Joey managed to pop the puck in, scoring his second of the game. The Chiefs scored a high goal. With 40 seconds left in the game Ed scored. The ‘Pack pulled their goalie before the Centre Ice face-off and got puck possession and went into the Chief’s zone and almost scored the tying goal but came up short.

FINAL SCORE:
Wolfpack: 4 – Chiefs: 5

It was a great game, a tough battle for both teams, and the Wolfpack put in an excellent effort. The three D-Men played an awesome game! Both goalies played great, and with the three “close calls” on the Chief’s goalie, it was evident that Hockey Gods were definitely smiling on him.

Wolfpack vs Parkland – October 28th, 2022

First Period
Mid-way through the Period Kyle made a great slap pass to Dax who scored the first goal of the game. A minute later Kyle let a bullet go from the point and scored. Joel was next on the scoreboard. Parkland responded with a goal. With less than two minutes left in the Period Loren was charged with holding, and now has the dubious distinction of taking the First Wolfpack penalty of the Season. The First Period ended: 3 – 1

Second Period & Third Period
Great action-packed hockey as both Teams battled for the puck and kept both goalies busy. It was lucky that the ‘Pack posted three goals in the First and held on to their lead, as there was no scoring in either the Second or Third Periods.

FINAL SCORE:
Wolfpack: 3 – Parkland: 1

Donnie showed up to cheer on the ‘Pack! Unfortunately he missed seeing Wolfpack’s goals but enjoyed watching Wolfpack win a gritty hard-fought battle against Parkland. He generously picked up the tab at Austin’s as Wolfpack celebrated their win.

Early in the Third the Flyers tied it up and a short time later Dallas popped in the go-ahead goal. Late in the Third Hot Tub scored two insurance goals on one shift to give the ‘Pack a 7 – 4 win.

Wolfpack played a solid defensive game. Lots of passing. Goal scorers were Hot Tub with three, Joel and Dallas with one each, and Kale with two.

Wolfpack’s winning streak has extended to four games, bringing the Record to 5 and 2.

Wolfpack vs TGots – October 21st, 2022

First Period
Loren was first on the scoreboard with a backhand flip high over the goalie’s shoulder. Craig passed to Curtis who fired a long low shot and scored. The D-Men had lots of scoring chances this Period. They also did a good job of clearing the puck out of our Zone and Kyle did an especially good job by blocking three shots in a row off his shin guards. The First Period ended: 2 – 0

Second Period
This was a fast-skating Period by both Teams, with both goalies seeing lots of action. The Period remained scoreless until the five-minute mark when Joel skated in from the Blueline with the puck and scored a nice goal. The Second Period ended: 3 – 0

Third Period
Early in the Third Reggie passed to Joel who scored on a high shot (his second of the night). Then a nice passing play from Reggie to Hot Tub to Joel resulted in Joel scoring a Hat Trick! The TGots put lots of pressure on the ‘Pack and finally with four minutes left on the clock they scored on a breakaway. With seconds left in the game Hot Tub passed to Joel and he scored his fourth goal of the game!

FINAL SCORE:
Wolfpack: 6 – TGots: 1

Wolfpack vs Parkland – October 16th, 2022

Reggie’s Report

The Wolfpack played a good game and Rick did his job in nets.

Ed and Hot Tub each scored once. The big hero of the night was the performance of Dax “The Destroyer” as he scored 4 times, finishing with the game-winning goal with his patented move (that doesn’t usually work) undressing the Parkland goalie on a breakaway.

Dax had a Hat Trick his previous game and is on a good roll. “All Hail Dax”

Parkland scored the first goal of the game and the ‘Pack tied it up near the end of the First Period.

Wolfpack took 4-1 lead into the Third Period. Parkland scored twice to make it close and then Wolfpack popped a couple to get the insurance they needed.

Final Score: Wolfpack 6 Parkland 5

Wolfpack vs Bonavista Bandits – October 14th, 2022

First Period
Wolfpack took an early lead on a nice play where Craig passed to Hot Tub, who shot on net and Swede picked off the rebound. A passing play from Craig to Stu to Hot Tub to Reggie in the slot resulted in Reggie scoring on the backhand. Bonavista came within inches of scoring when they hit the crossbar. Reggie tried for a re-direct shot, but totally missed the net. Curtis took the puck end-to-end and scored a high backhanded goal. Joel shot on the goalie, then picked off his own rebound. With 30 seconds left in the Period Bonavista scored a goal. The First Period ended: 4 – 1

Second Period
Early in the Second Period Kyle wound up and took a hard shot from the Blueline, hitting Reggie who was in front of the net screening the goalie. He went down like a ton of bricks. Luckily the puck had hit him in the shinguard, so he was fine to play on. Stu made a nice pass to Dallas who slid the puck in from a sharp angle. Bonavista was playing better in the Second and their hard work paid off with a late Period goal. The Second Period ended: 5 – 2

Third Period
There was lots of great hockey action from both teams in the Third Period. Halfway through the Period Joel passed to Curtis who shot, and Ed picked off the rebound. Rick made some big saves to keep the Bonavista goal numbers down, but they did manage to score with three minutes left in the game. With two minutes left a passing play from Swede to Reggie to Hot Tub resulted in Hot Tub scoring the final goal of the game.

FINAL SCORE:
Wolfpack: 7 – Bonavista Bandits: – 2

Wolfpack vs Old Shots, October 11, 2022

Reggie’s Report

Wolfpack took a 1-0 lead into the Second Period on a goal by Hot Tub on a beautiful pass from Swede.

Second Period did not go well as the Old Shots scored six times with only a single goal from Stu who scored on a rush from Center Ice.

The Third Period was a bit of a cluster as the ‘Pack worked hard to contain the Old Shots, but ultimately fell nine to three. The lone goal for Wolfpack in the Third was scored by Dallas.

All in all not many highlites. Reggie had a nice hard backhand that flew over the net (atleast he got it up) and Kyle entertained the troops with a couple unique moves in front of opposing net deeking himself out a couple of times.

Wolfpack did manage 4 posts tonight, so it could have been a lot closer.

Friday’s game is against the Bowness B’s. Wolfpack is prepping for the “biggest game of the year”.
